The EOTO that I decided to research on was the first camera phone. It was called Kyocera Phone VP- 210. It was developed in Japan in May of 1999. When the phone was released it was called the first mobile video phone. The phone's camera faced the front of the phone (selfie). The phone has 110,000 pixels on it. This phone was only able to take up to twenty pictures until the storage would become full. Though you were able to save or delete pictures of your choosing. The Kyocera Phone VP- 210 had its own built- in stand. This made taking pictures of oneself or others much easier. I think this was actually a very smart feature on this phone because it was multi purposeful. You could use the stand for when you can’t hold your phone during a phone call or if you need to use the phone's camera as a mirror. When the Kyocera Phone VP- 210 came out in 1999 the price was listed for $325 and if it came out today it would cost $520. The invention of the first camera phone has had a huge part on the evaluation of phones but not only that yet technology as a whole as well. The first cell phone came out 16 years prior in 1983. It developed from a big chunky phone to something so little you can carry it around in your pocket. The cell phone evolution took off after the Kyocera Phone VP- 210 was created and released. Only 8 years later in 2007 the first IPhone made by Apple was invented and hit the markets, which is a faster evolution then 16 years from when the first cell phone was invented. The Kyocera Phone VP- 210 set technology as a whole into a new beginning. From computers, to laptops, phones, IPods, earbuds, anything you can think of really. After the phone came out technology as a whole was changed forever. I think this invention was a good thing but also you can look at certain things it created as not so good. Some good aspects are for one new advances in our society and growing further into the future. The idea of putting a camera on a phone has led to so many ideas in our current day. Some of those ideas are apps we now have downloaded on our phones. For example snapchat, instagram, tiktok, twitter, and facebook. These are all social media apps that are used by our smartphones. They all mostly require camera access because they are photo/ video based apps. Even though the Kyocera Phone VP- 210 didn’t create these apps, it opened a door for possibilities in the future. Now on our current smartphones we are able to take pictures, videos, time lapses and much more due to the Kyocera Phone VP- 210. Some of the down sides I think it created also dealt with social media. If you look back in the 2000s when teenages and young adults had phones it was flip phones and the pictures they took never went onto a social media page. Nowadays young people even younger than teenage years are using social media to compare themselves to people who have used photoshop and have set unrealistic body images which I find sad and disturbing. I believe there are pros and cons to both sides of the first camera phone coming out.
